Thessaloniki's Single Court of Appeal awarded 400,000 euros in mental pain compensation to the family of a 14-year-old boy who was murdered by his friend and classmate of the same age in Gefyra, a village northwest of the northern port city, in June 2016.

The victim's parents received 100,000 euros, his two brothers received 80,000 euros, and his grandmothers received 20,000 euros.

The 14-year-old's family filed a lawsuit in the competent court against the perpetrator and his family.

The sum of 420,000 euros was awarded by the court of first instance.

The perpetrator was sentenced to rehabilitation by the Thessaloniki Juvenile Court in January 2018.

This included his imprisonment at the Volos Juvenile Education Institution until he reached adulthood, as well as daily supervision by a child psychiatrist.
