ATHEX: Stocks end week, month in the red

May was the month when the benchmark of the Greek stock market temporarily topped the 1,500-point level to register a 13-year high, but on a monthly basis the year's fifth month recorded a decline of 1.15% after Friday's fresh losses at Athinon Avenue. The quarterly restructuring of the MSCI indexes saw Friday's turnover soar, but this is no more than a technical increase as it all happened during the closing auctions.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,431.84 points, shedding 0.56% from Thursday's 1,439.92 points. On a weekly basis it conceded 3.10%.

The large-cap FTSE-25 index contracted 0.83%, ending at 3,453.87 points, though mid-caps expanded 1.42%.

The banks index declined 1.29%, as National lost 1.72%, Alpha fell 1.52%, Eurobank gave up 1.13% and Piraeus eased 0.61%. Cenergy Holdings jumped 3.81% and Viohalco rose 3.40%.
