Djokovic withdraws from Roland Garros due to knee injury

PARIS - Serbia's Novak Djokovic, the world number one in men's tennis singles, has withdrawn from Roland Garros due to a knee injury, the tournament organisers announced on Tuesday.

Djokovic defeated Argentine Francisco Cerundolo 6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the fourth round on Monday.

He experienced pain in his right knee during the match.

Djokovic, the tournament's reigning champion and top seed, was to face Norwegian Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Following the decision to withdraw from Roland Garros, Djokovic will also lose the number one spot in the ATP world rankings.
