Blaze Erupts in Glyka Nera: Video Footage Captures Fire Ignition and Suspects’ Escape

The dramatic moments that show the outbreak of the big fire at Glyka Nera that threatened Ymittos, but also what followed with the people who are allegedly responsible and their attempt to get away when they saw that pine trees had already started burning, have been recorded in a video brought to the public by protothema.gr.
In the first part of the video, it is clearly seen that the dry grass above the stadium and the cemetery of Sweet Waters has just caught fire and a man rushes away. In the second part, a dark-coloured van is speeding away from the scene as the flames have already mowed down.

Watch the video:

For the large fire, four people have been brought to the Peania police station, and according to the evidence so far, the fire started after a drone with which the four were doing a test flight in the forest area.

In fact, while the Northeast Attica police officers were on the scene, they spotted these four people fleeing the area quickly.

Then the police officers stopped them and then, after a check, they were arrested. They led them to the Peania Police Station and the Fire Department has been informed.

Video of the drone found at the scene:

It is noted that the fire in Glyka Nera, in less than two hours, was contained thanks to the immediate mobilization of the Fire Brigade after strong ground forces rushed to the scene and airborne means were also operated. Specifically, 100 firefighters with 6 hiking sections and 25 vehicles were dispatched, while 9 aircraft and 7 helicopters, including one of which was a coordinator, also assisted.

There was no wind at the scene and although it broke out near the settlement, it did not go towards the urban fabric.

Earlier, a message was sent from 112 so that those in the area could be on standby.

The drone is of the type SARISA SRS-1A of the SAS company. The same type of drone is also used by the fire service with this drone being the military version, certified by NATO as a rocket launcher. According to the company’s specifications, the flight time depends on the load, mission and conditions, but in any case exceeds 20 minutes with a maximum load. The SARISA SRS-1A is being commercially promoted in the international armed drone market in the low-cost systems category. The drone, according to its commercial brochure, can be equipped with a single or dual rocket launcher, including the 2.75-inch HYDRA 70 rocket.

It should be noted that the Greek drone was presented in 2021 at the DEFEA exhibition, while this year it is participating in Eurosatory 2024 in Paris.
