Fire in Evia: Smoke visible from Attica – See photos

 

Smoke from the fire that has been burning central Evia since noon Wednesday has made its presence felt across Attica.

Specifically, a photo posted on social media by IEPVA/EAA research director Dr. Kostas Lagovardos shows the smoke from Penteli.

At the same time, other photos uploaded by social media users show the smoke covering western Attica.

From the first moment the fire broke out, very strong ground and air forces have been operating. At the moment 145 firefighters with 7 forestry teams and 43 vehicles and a large number of Volunteers are fighting the flames. 19 air assets, 11 aircraft and 6 helicopters and 2 more helicopters have been deployed for aerial firefighting and coordination.

The local government and the Armed Forces are assisting with project machinery and water trucks. Greek Police forces have been deployed in the area to facilitate the movement of residents. All civil protection forces are coordinated by the Mobile Operational Center OLYMPOS.

It is noted that 45 new fires occurred in the last 24 hours and 37 of them were dealt with in the first year.
