Alexandroupoli: 18-year-old bouncer charged with manslaughter after the death of a man he beat up in a club

The indictment for the 18-year-old nightclub doorman in Feres, Evros, changes after the death of the 42-year-old father of four who was thrown by a martial arts connoisseur outside the shop while intervening in a fight, causing him to suffer a head injury and succumb.

Now, the young man will face a charge of manslaughter and it remains for the prosecutor to decide whether to find there was intent, meaning he will likely be remanded in custody. Initially, the young man was charged with bodily harm and had been released on the restrictive conditions of 1,000 euros bail, a ban on leaving the country and attendance at the Alexandroupolis police station, due to his post-adolescent age and because he had not previously been of concern to authorities.

The tragic incident happened on the evening of August 15, during entertainment at the nightclub, when the unfortunate polygamist accidentally broke a glass, but the glasses slightly injured the leg of a girl who rushed to inform her father, who was having fun at the same club. He demanded an explanation from the 42-year-old and a heated argument broke out that continued outside the nightclub, with the intervention of the 18-year-old bouncer.

The young man literally threw the 42-year-old into the air, who fell head first to the ground and lost consciousness after suffering severe head trauma. Immediately, he was evacuated by ambulance to the University General Hospital of Alexandroupolis, where he underwent neurosurgical operations on his head but from the beginning doctors were pessimistic about the course of his condition. Indeed, after five days of hospitalisation in the Intensive Care Unit, the unfortunate man lost the battle he was fighting to keep himself alive.

The father of the young woman, who was slightly injured by the glass that the 42-year-old had broken, had been arrested by security officers on charges of dangerous bodily harm, but the investigation into the incident showed that he had no involvement in the injury to the elderly man, so he was released without any restrictions.
