Palermo Shipwreck: Italian authorities launch investigation for negligent homicide

Italian authorities have launched an investigation for negligent homicide in connection with the tragic shipwreck in Palermo that claimed the lives of at least six people.

According to the Daily Mail, the Termini Imerese Prosecutor’s Office, led by Ambrogio Cartosio, is investigating why the luxury yacht capsized near the Porticello harbor shortly before 5 AM on Monday.

The investigators are examining the offenses of “causing a shipwreck and multiple negligent homicides” against “unknown persons,” according to Italian media.

Prosecutors are expected to hold a press conference tomorrow morning, reports Sky News.

Search efforts for the last missing person from the shipwreck, 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, resumed this morning after a brief pause.

It is worth noting that divers recovered the fifth deceased person from the six missing in the superyacht wreck yesterday. On Wednesday, they had retrieved four bodies from the sunken vessel.
