SYRIZA: Political Secretariat meets – Dispute over Kasselakis’ proposed changes and the party’s new name

The meeting of SYRIZA’s Political Secretariat began shortly before 2 PM and is crucial for the party, as it will discuss the changes proposed by Stefanos Kasselakis to the party’s Constitution and its name.

However, according to reports, there has been a dispute regarding the proposed changes. During yesterday’s lengthy meeting of SYRIZA PS’s Constitutional Committee, participants only managed to reach Article 10 out of the 50 articles of the new constitution, raising doubts that these changes will be fully discussed today.

Pavlos Polakis is also present at the meeting, having arrived at SYRIZA’s headquarters shortly before 2 PM.

This delay is due to intense debates, as each article is being examined individually. Thus, it remains unclear if Mr. Kasselakis’ proposed changes will be discussed and voted on by the Central Committee over the upcoming weekend.

At the same time, according to reports, former SYRIZA PS Secretary and Kasselakis supporter Panos Rigas suggested that the issue of the party’s new name be discussed at the end of the review of the 50 articles. This move was interpreted by those present as a sign that the leadership may reconsider the issue. Notably, even some members of the “Kasselakis” camp, such as Nikos Pappas, the new President of SYRIZA PS’s Parliamentary Group, and MP Vasilis Kokkalis, have openly expressed reservations.

Day of decisions

Following the Political Secretariat meeting, the Constitutional Committee is expected to meet again for the third day, as reported by protothema.gr. Additionally, at 5 PM, the Ethics Committee will meet, where the atmosphere is reportedly tense for former Minister Christos Spirtzis.
