Interactive maps for fires, landslides by the Ionian University

On the Ionian Islands, fires, floods, landslides are depicted on interactive maps. A network of sensors detects extreme events while providing information on escape routes, landing zones, population concentration areas, vulnerable areas, building damage, fire stations, reservoirs and volunteer organizations, critical infrastructure, temporary shelter areas, emergency updates and contact numbers.

The interactive maps of the project “Laertis – Innovative Operational System for Natural Hazard Management in the Ionian Islands Region” ( https://hazardspro.eu/) and the technology applied for the installation of the sensor system are presented in the AKADEMIA thematic tribute of the 88th Thessaloniki International Fair.

This project is not the only one that has attracted the interest of visitors to the meeting place of the educational community at the TIF. The multi-layered project that produced at the Ionian University in the fields of scientific research, artistic creation and innovative applications and activities is presented in the exhibition area of the institution by the Bioinformatics and Human Electrophysiology Laboratory (BiHELab) of the Department of Informatics supported by the Ionian University, the Computational Modelling Laboratory (CMODLab), also of the Department of Informatics, while for the first time the spin-off company of the Ionian TechnoMedia Foundation participates. The presence of the University at the 88th TIF is supported by 26 student volunteers.

“It is a great pleasure to be able to present our curricula and research results to the public interested in learning more about Ionian University. We have the opportunity to get in touch with new people and to highlight a unique identity that the Ionian University has, which consists in the interdisciplinarity produced by the synergy of the curricula with each other, which operate in four islands of the Ionian Sea, as well as its small academic scale that creates personal relationships between faculty and students, so that this is introduced in the educational process and is one of the greatest advantages,” said in A

“You will see things that we are proud of at the Ionian University, in terms of research results, we have them in real applications, in a form that can be tested by every visitor,” assured the president of the University Research Center of the Ionian University, Panagiotis Vlamos.

Talking about the achievements of the university’s research in the field of bioinformatics, he explained that “we have brought the neuroeducation part, where we will see how we can have intervention within educational actions in the learners, so that we can monitor alongside the difficulties they face or the problems they have within learning, their brain activity and centered on the individual and the learning accuracy and difficulty they present, we can improve teaching and learning practices and
