Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos proposed the appointment of Anna Stratinakis as the new Consumer Ombudsman, a decision that was approved by the majority of the Special Standing Committee on Institutions and Transparency of Parliament. Her nomination will be formally presented by the Minister at the next Cabinet meeting, where she is expected to assume her duties immediately.
In his statement before the Committee members, the Minister of Development referred to Ms. Stratinaki’s rich credentials, her experience in other key posts, and why she was nominated for the critical position of Consumer Advocate.
During the presentation, Theodoricakos stressed that the Ministry of Development, as well as the Government as a whole, supports the Independent Authorities with all its might, as it has done with the Independent Competition Authority, which it is strengthening by approving 50 new recruitments. It is doing the same for the Consumer Advocate, as it is being given a special role. He spoke of the need to further strengthen the role of the Consumer Advocate and meet several requests to improve the infrastructure at its disposal.
Earlier, the Minister of Development met with the outgoing Consumer Ombudsman, Lefteris Zagoritis, who was accompanied by Deputy Consumer Advocate Vasiliki Bolou and Assistant Consumer Advocate Efthymios Tsigas.
Mr. Zagoritis presented to Mr. Theodoricakos the report of the Independent Authority for 2023 and the Minister of Development warmly thanked him for the very important work he has done for ten consecutive years in this very important institution.
