Ukrainian President Highlights Anticipation of a Counterattack; Russia Reports Reclaiming Ten Villages in Region of Recent Kyiv Offensive

The Russian aggression on the Ukrainian front is creating new conditions, prompting the Western community to reassess the level of support it will provide to Kyiv. According to recent developments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reported that the Russian army has begun a counteroffensive in the western Russian region of Kursk.

He also mentioned that Ukraine had anticipated a counterattack.

To highlight Russian brutality, Zelensky made the following post on platform X, accompanied by a photo:

“Another crime by Russia. Today, the aggressor fired at vehicles of the International Committee of the Red Cross that were providing humanitarian aid in the Donetsk region.”

“According to what we know, two injured individuals are receiving special assistance. Unfortunately, three people were killed in the Russian attack. I extend my sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims,” he added.

“In this war, everything is absolutely clear regarding Russian brutality. Ukraine is defending life. If anyone wants to hear ‘both sides,’ in Russia, this is perceived as the right to take lives,” Zelensky continued.

“The world must respond with courage and ethics. States and international organizations cannot remain indifferent. Only together can we pressure Russia to stop the terrorism and move towards peace,” concluded the Ukrainian president.

Earlier, Russia reported that it had reclaimed 10 villages in the Kursk region, where Ukraine launched a large-scale invasion last month.

“Troops liberated 10 settlements in just two days,” reported the Russian Defense Minister in a Telegram post.

Timeline of Ukraine’s Invasion

On August 6, Ukraine launched the largest attack from abroad against Russia since World War II, crossing the border and invading the Kursk region with thousands of soldiers supported by drone swarms and heavy weapons, including Western-made arms.

Yuri Podolyaka, a Ukrainian-born blogger supporting Russia, and two other influential bloggers—Rybar and Two Majors—reported 24 hours ago that Russian forces have started a significant counteroffensive in Kursk.

“In the Kursk region, the Russian Army has launched a counteroffensive on the western side of the enemy wedge, reducing the Ukrainian control zone near the state borders,” reported the blog Two Majors.

Podolyaka stated that Russian forces have captured villages in the western part of the Russian territory invaded by Ukraine, pushing Ukrainian forces east of the Malaya Loknia River, south of Snagost.
