Shooting suspect flees on foot, discards gun after police pursuit

Authorities say a shooting suspect fled on foot after evading police in his vehicle in Zefyri, northwest of Athens, late Tuesday.

The pursuit began around 9 p.m. when police responded to reports of gunshots on Therisou Street. Officers spotted a speeding vehicle, which eventually stopped on Marinou Antypa Street. The suspect then fled on foot, discarding a Kalashnikov rifle in the process.

Police recovered two magazines and bullets from the car, along with five shell casings at the scene of the gunfire.
