Man allegedly douses woman in liquid, tries to set her on fire

Authorities say a man poured a flammable liquid on a woman and tried to set her on fire.

A statement from the police said the incident, said to be triggered by an altercation, occurred on Monday morning in the western Attica suburb of Zefyri.

A 51-year-old suspect, identified as Roma, has been apprehended by the police in connection with the attack.

Three arrested for attempted murder

Three people, aged 34, 36 and 41, were arrested on Tuesday in Zefyri, western Attica and charged with the attempted murder of a 19-year-old, robbery and violations of weapons legislation. 

According to the police, the three men stole the mobile phone of the 19-year-old in the Monastiraki area of central Athens using physical force. 

Attica burglary racket broken up by police

Six suspected member of a burglary racket believed to be behind at least 22 break-ins and thefts in northeastern Attica faced an Athens prosecutor on Monday on multiple theft charges.
The racket's loot is believed to be worth in excess of 328,000 euros.
The six suspects were arrested following a police sweep in the areas of Zefyri and Ano Liosia last Friday.

Serial supermarket robber nabbed

A 34-year-old woman believed to be behind at least 56 supermarket robberies in different parts of the greater Athens area was to face a prosecutor on Wednesday on multiple charges of theft.

The woman, who was arrested in Zefyri, northwestern Athens, is believed to have worked with two accomplices, who are being sought by police.

Police arrest suspect in rape of young woman in western Athens

Greek police arrested and led before a prosecutor on Friday a 60-year-old man as the suspected perpetrator in the rape of a young woman in Zefyri, western Athens, last week.

The 22-year-old woman, who is believed to be Roma, was found unconscious in the street and remains hospitalised at Nikaia General Hospital near Piraeus.
