Battle Against Three Wildfires in Ilia – Homes Destroyed, Watch Videos and Photos

Since midday on Friday, October 4, Ilia has been engulfed in flames due to wildfires raging in the regions of Geraki, Panopoulo, and Manolada.

Strong ground and aerial firefighting teams are actively working in Geraki to contain a fire that has already devastated forested areas and destroyed homes.

“The situation is challenging; the fire is difficult to control due to strong winds. I have dispatched all available machinery from the region to combat the flames. I know that two homes have been lost, and ten aerial units are currently in action. I am in constant communication with Mr. Kikilias,” emphasized Nikos Korovesis, the Vice Governor of Ilia.

“There are currently three fire fronts: one towards Chavari, another towards Kryoneri, and the third towards Geraki. All three are dangerous due to the high winds. Two homes in the Boumbouna area have burned down. We couldn’t save them… However, at this moment, no other homes are in immediate danger, depending on the wind,” said Christos Christodoulopoulos, the Mayor of Ilida.
