Firefighters are battling a large wildfire in the western Peloponnese that local officials say threatens residential areas.

Winds of up to force 6 and 7 are fanning the flames near the village of Geraki area, which is in the Municipality of Amaliada.

Since midday on Friday, October 4, Ilia has been engulfed in flames due to wildfires raging in the regions of Geraki, Panopoulo, and Manolada.

Strong ground and aerial firefighting teams are actively working in Geraki to contain a fire that has already devastated forested areas and destroyed homes.
