Weather: New Emergency Bulletin for the Upcoming Storm Starting Today and Lasting for Three Days – Affected Areas

The new emergency weather bulletin predicts a worsening of weather conditions starting this afternoon and lasting for almost 24 hours due to the Cassandra storm, which will pass north of Greece but not significantly affect the country, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS).

The weather will worsen as a cold front passes through from early afternoon on Friday (04-10-24) until Saturday evening (05-10-24), bringing locally heavy rain and storms, mainly in the western and northeastern parts of Greece.

Friday (04-10-24):
From early afternoon, rain and storms will initially affect the northern Ionian Sea and gradually spread to Epirus, the rest of the Ionian Islands, western Central Greece, and northwestern Peloponnese. During the night, there is a possibility that western Thessaly may be briefly affected. The phenomena will weaken by night in the northwest.

Saturday (05-10-24):

  • From early morning until the afternoon, rain and storms will affect western Central Greece, the western Peloponnese, and the southern Ionian Islands.
  • From late morning until evening, eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the northeastern Aegean islands will be affected.

Meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis warns of heavy rainfall, storms, and possible hail. He mentions a low-pressure system from Italy that will affect several parts of Greece from Friday through Monday. This system could bring frequent lightning and strong wind gusts.

The areas most affected will be western Greece, as well as the eastern and northeastern regions.

Intense weather in western Central Greece and the western Peloponnese will subside by noon, while eastern Macedonia, Thrace, and the northeastern Aegean will experience storms from late morning until evening.

Dust transport from Africa will affect most of the country.

By Monday, localized showers and storms will clear, with generally good weather across the country by Tuesday. Winds will shift to the west-northwest, with temperatures dropping slightly but rising again on Tuesday.
