ATHEX: Fifth day of stock growth

Contrary to most eurozone bourses, the Greek stock market reacted positively to the election of Donald Trump in the US, though its early gains were curtailed significantly by the end of the session. Therefore local stocks continued their ascent for a fifth day, although mid-caps ended up in the red. A five-session rising sequence for the benchmark had not been recorded since mid-August.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,408.57 points, adding 0.64% to Tuesday's 1,399.66 points. The large-cap FTSE-25 index expanded 0.81%, ending at 3,416.29 points, while mid-caps contracted 0.39%. The banks index rose 1.18%, with Piraeus advancing 2.05%.

In total 56 stocks enjoyed gains, 34 reported losses and 32 remained unchanged.

The positive climate was also reflected in turnover, which was the highest of the last six sessions, amounting to 149.5 million...
