How divided will the US be after Trump’s resounding victory?

Americans went to the polls on Tuesday in a mood defined by anger and complete disdain for the "other side."

For Donald Trump supporters, the main issues at stake were the economy and immigration, while Kamala Harris' voters were mostly concerned with safeguarding democracy and abortion rights. Even the priorities pointed to a competition between two completely different worlds.

The question now is what comes next and how divisive the mood will be following the re-election of former president Donald Trump, given how few bridges there are uniting the two camps - these are needed now more than ever, though no one has stepped forward to act as a bridge builder.

Those who are willing to listen to both sides are few and far between. They face an uphill battle, but they are also the only ones who can prevent a further slide into the abyss of division.
