Criminal charges against Olympiacos Management over the Lyggeridis murder case

Criminal charges have reportedly been filed against the president and four other officials of Olympiacos FC by judicial authorities handling a major case involving 167 defendants linked to a criminal organization within football. This organization has been associated with the murder of police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis in Renti in 2023.

The charges target Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis, Piraeus mayor Giannis Moralis, Olympiacos vice presidents Konstantinos Karapapas and Dimitris Agrafiotis, and Michalis Kountouris.

According to the same reports, the charges, classified as misdemeanors, include supporting and funding a criminal organization as well as inciting sports-related violence.

The five accused individuals have been summoned to appear before the investigating magistrate overseeing the case next Tuesday. However, they have the right to request a postponement to prepare their defense.

These charges were filed following an order by the magistrate in charge of the case, which has already led to the pre-trial detention of dozens of individuals last April, including key members of Olympiacos’ fan group “Gate 7.”
