MP Theodora Tzakri announces she’s leaving SYRIZA

As former opposition leader Stefanos Kasselakis prepares to unveil the name of his new political formation on Saturday, another MP in the embattled SYRIZA party announced her intention to leave its parliamentary group on Thursday, a move that would whittle the leftists' position and leave it trailing now third-placed center-left PASOK.

"I can't be at the declaration of one party and a member of SYRIZA's parliamentary group simultaneously," MP Theodora Tzakri told Mega TV on Thursday morning, indicating that her decision will be formalized before the week is out.

"I don't want to stay and they don't want me to either," she said, adding that "the rift with the people who hold SYRIZA's reins and the mental distance that divides us prevent me from staying."
