Police seize 172 artifacts, arrest two in Alimos

Police seized 172 ancient artifacts and arrested two suspects during a raid on three homes and a vehicle in Alimos, a southern suburb of Athens.

The recovered items include Roman and Byzantine clay lamps, bronze and silver coins, ceramic fragments and vessels such as kylikes and lekythoi from the Archaic to Hellenistic periods. The local Ephorate of Antiquities confirmed their authenticity, noting eight items require further analysis.

The suspects face charges for violating cultural heritage protection laws and were referred to prosecutors. Investigations are ongoing.
