79 migrants rescued near Gavdos in two incidents

The Coast Guard rescued 79 migrants in two operations near Greece's southernmost island of Gavdos.

Late Friday, a rescue vessel intercepted a boat carrying 43 men 10 nautical miles off Gavdos. The migrants were taken to Hora Sfakion port and transferred to temporary housing in Agia, Hania.

On Saturday morning, a Panama-flagged cargo ship rescued migrants from a distressed vessel 38 nautical miles south of Gavdos. They were also transported to Hora Sfakion and housed temporarily. Authorities are investigating both incidents.
