Tax errors now automatically correctable

Greek taxpayers burdened by erroneous tax assessments can now expect refunds and waivers through a groundbreaking automated process introduced by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). 

The new mechanism promises to refund or annul taxes and fines automatically, removing the need for taxpayers to file formal applications. The reform covers cases dating back to December 1, 2014, targeting what officials classify as "apparent errors" in tax assessments.

The initiative marks a departure from past practices, where taxpayers were often required to resolve such errors through prolonged and convoluted administrative processes, including arbitration and legal battles. AADE's decision highlights a growing focus on accountability, efficiency and fairness in tax governance.
