Tsipras: Simitis ‘left a strong imprint’

Former Prime Minister and Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras said Sunday that Costas Simitis had "left a strong imprint on the country's contemporary political history."

Simits "deserves respect as a political opponent, but also recognition that as a leader he made crucial decisions that determined the course (of the country)," said the left-wing politician.

"He was associated with his own vision of modernization, which determined both the economic course of the country and the nature of its political system. Especially with his decision to join the Eurozone, which had considerable benefits but also very serious (adverse) economic consequences later," Tsipras added.
