Cretan blood feud lands 79-year-old man in prison

A 79-year-old Cretan man was remanded into custody on Thursday, pending trial for the attempted murder of a 35-year-old livestock farmer in a case that is being treated as a blood feud between two families in the island's Iraklio prefecture.

According to the state-run Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), the 79-year-old admitted during questioning by investigators that his "mind became a blur" when he came across the 35-year-old man working at a livestock farm in the village of Malades on Monday. 

"I saw my boy in his face," the suspect allegedly said, referring to his son who was killed, aged 39, by a member of the 35-year-old's family in 2012.

The suspect reportedly tried to run over the victim with his pickup truck and, when that failed, started shooting at him with a gun, for which he does not have a license.
