Shocking video: Diyarbakir Bar Association president shot

The president of the Diyarbakir Bar Association, Tahir Elci, was shot in the southeastern province while he was making a statement to the press.

Lawyer Elci, who was a leading Kurdish rights activist, was killed during a shootout.

One policeman was killed whereas three other policemen and journalists were wounded.

 

Tsipras bursts out on social security issue

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras proposed at the political leaders’ meeting to form two separate committees where all parties would participate: a committee for social insurance and a committee for the revision of Constitution.

New Democracy interim president Giannis Plakiotakis, PASOK leader Fofi Genimmata and Potami leader Stavros Theodorakis rejected the proposal.

Professor Lazos denies that his study proves Greek women sell sex for food

Professor Gregory Lazos denied categorically that his study, on which the journalist of The Times based her article, proves that young Greek women sell sex for a sandwich.

“I never said that” Mr. Lazos stated to Vima news media saying that Anthee Carassava, the journalist who wrote the article, might have misunderstood the content of his study.

Planned Rise in Vignette Stickers' Price Prompts Protests in Bulgaria

Protests against a planned increase in the price of vignette stickers for motor vehicles have been held across Bulgaria on Saturday, local media reported.

Protesters in Sofia gathered in front of Parliament building to demand that the government scrapped its decision for a one-off increase of up to 50% of the price from next year. 

US Embassy, EU ambassador extends condolences to murdered Elçi, policeman

The United States Embassy in Turkey has extended condolences to Tahir Elçi, the Diyarbak?r Bar head killed on Nov. 28, and a policeman, who was also shot dead during the attack. 

"We are shocked by the tragic death of Tahir Elçi - a courageous defender of human rights," read a tweet by the official account of the embassy.

Footage displays killing of officer by killers of bar head Elçi

A security footage shows the killing of a policeman by attackers who allegedly killed Tahir Elçi, the Diyarbak?r Bar Association head, moments later.

The footage recorded at a spot close to the crime scene displays a policeman approaching a car, before being shot down, reportedly by a bullet from inside the car.

Killing of bar head might be assassination, Turkish PM says

The killing of Tahir Elçi, the head of Diyarbak?r Bar Association, in a gun attack Nov. 28 might be an assassination, Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu has said.

"There are two possibilities," he said during a televized speech on Nov. 28. 

"One of them is an assassination," he said, "If there is such a thing, this will be revealed," he said.
