Greece Tightens Anti-Epidemic Measures as Number of Cases Mounts

Greece is stepping up national quarantine measures introduced because of COVID-19 till January 11. Service sector companies that have so far been allowed to work are being shut down, government spokesman Stelios Petsas said today, as quoted by TASS news agency.

Turkish Airlines suspends flights from UK to Turkey

Turkey's national flag carrier Turkish Airlines announced on Jan. 2 that flights from the U.K. to Turkey were suspended under travel restrictions due to the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the flights from Turkey to the U.K., and from the U.K. to other countries, including the transit flights, continue as planned, it noted.

Police issues 1,000 fines for holiday violations

Officers of the Hellenic Police (ELAS) issued more than 1,000 fines and made six arrests on New Year's Day alone over violations of health safety measures, ELAS said in an announcement on Saturday.

According to ELAS' press release, officers carried out a total of 57,498 inspections, including 13,159 at Athens International Airport.

US Sanctions against Turkish Stream Pipe Come into Force

The House of Representatives of US Congress (lower house) rejected a presidential veto on Monday. Thus, the provisions for the defense budget, which include the extension of sanctions against the Nord Stream-2 and Turkish Stream pipelines, enter into force. Both chambers, for the first time in Trump's presidency, have managed to override his veto.
