Kasselakis and McBeth marry in Hania under tight security

SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis and his partner, Tyler McBeth, married at the Hania Botanical Garden on Friday evening under tight security.

A police patrol blocked access to uninvited guests. Two people were detained for attempting to capture aerial footage with a drone. Authorities used a drone detection system and required guests to surrender their phones. 

Water Abandons Itself | Athens | September 5 – October 12

The A.Antonopoulou Art gallery (20 Aristofanous, aaart.gr) will showcase "Water Abandons Itself - Gold Takes Life Over," a solo exhibition of works by Athens-based artist Stefania Strouza, curated by Marina Fokidis.

Lightning strikes spark 24 fires

Lightning strikes on Friday afternoon sparked 24 fires across the country, the fire service has said.

A total of 72 fires broke out in the last 24 hours in wooded and agricultural areas, mainly in the Peloponnese, Skyros, Attica, Viotia and Evia, of which 50 were dealt with immediately, the service added.

Firefighters are continuing to combat 22 fires.

Car stuck after pothole appears in Athens street amid heavy rain

A car got stuck in a pothole that opened up on an Athens street amid heavy rain.

The pothole on Halkidos Street appeared following recent roadworks by a utility company. Municipal officials quickly responded, securing the area and coordinating with the contractor so that the car owner would be compensated.

Changes set to be introduced to schools

Ahead of the new academic year, which starts on September 11, Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis presented 11 changes to improve the teaching process and school life in a meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday.

Mitsotakis said in his statement that the 11 "very important changes" include 10,000 new permanent teacher hires.
