A 14-year-old boy was transferred to a children's hospital in Athens after he lost consciousness while caroling in the town of Arta, northwestern Greece, on Sunday.

The boy was intubated at a local hospital before being taken to University Hospital of Ioannina where he was operated on for a cerebral hemorrhage, according to state-run broadcaster ERT. 

A 67-year-old man was injured after he was attacked by a bear near the town of Arta in northern Greece on Monday. According to state broadcaster ERT, the man was walking on a hiking path near the river when he was attacked by the bear.

A 5-month-old baby died in a car after it was left there by its father in the northwestern town of Arta.

According to police sources, the father was supposed to drop the child off at the nursery, but forgot it in the backseat of the car. The infant's mother went to the nursery at noon to pick up the baby and was informed it was not there.

In a show of support for students in the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Ioannina in northwestern Greece, the department's professors submitted their resignations en masse to the rector, because of the non-granting of professional rights to faculty graduates.

With the completion of the recent population census, 14 constituencies are changing seats. 

More specifically, as a result of a population increase in the respective regions, Eastern Attica gets two extra seats, while the North, West and South sectors of Athens and the first electoral district of Thessaloniki each gain one seat, by presidential decree. 

Mainland Greece is aging alarmingly - faster than even the most dire predictions of demographers. One in three residents of the Prefectures of Arta and Evrytania is currently over 65 years old, a percentage that was expected in 2050, while in eleven prefectures of the country with a total population of 828,000 people one in four is elderly.

Many parts of northwestern Greece sustained floods, rockfalls and other damage as heavy rain and gale-force winds swept into Greece on Monday, ending a spell of clear skies and unseasonably warm temperatures.

Police in western Greece have seized more than 20 kilograms of marijuana and arrested two suspects on smuggling charges.

Municipal and regional repair crews were sent out in Epirus, northwestern Greece, on Monday to pump water out of flooded houses and remove debris washed down onto many parts of the road network by storms on Sunday.
