Mayor of Bulgaria's Galiche Placed under House Arrest

A court ruled on Monday the mayor of Galiche village, Tsenko Chokov, is to be released from custody and placed under house arrest for health reasons.

The Specialized Criminal Court of Bulgaria took into account a medical report saying the arrest of Chokov, indicted on charges of running an organized criminal gang in his village, "unlocked" some old diseases and caused some new ones.

Mayor of Bulgaria's Galiche Remains in Custody

The appellate specialised criminal court ruled on Tuesday that the controversial mayor of the Bulgarian village of Galiche, Tsenko Chokov, is to remain in custody.

At the end of May, Chokov was detained in a specialised police operation on charges of heading an organised crime group involved in usury, racketeering, kidnapping, setting property on fire, inflicting physical injuries.

Bulgaria's Prosecution to Demand Custody for Mayor of Galiche

Bulgarian prosecuting authorities will demand that the mayor of the village of Galiche, Tsenko Chokov, should remain in custody after being arrested in a police operation on Thursday.

Chokov has already been indicted on charges of heading an organized criminal gang, the Chief Prosecutor's spokesperson, Rumyana Arnaudova, has told private NOVA TV broadcaster.

Mayor of Bulgaria's Galiche Arrested in Specialised Police Operation

The controversial mayor of Galiche, Tsenko Chokov, has been detained in a specialised police operation conducted in the village on Thursday.

The operation is carried out by the interior ministry's General Directorate Countering Organised Crime (GDBOP) under the guidance of the specialised prosecutor's office.
