A 40-year-old worker died Saturday afternoon at Chalkis Shipyards in the city of Halkida, north of Ahens, when hit by a part of a ship's shell door that broke off.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. Saturday. The man died instantly.

The Halkida Port Authority is investigating the accident.

The coastal town of Preveza in northwestern Greece was rattled by a 3.7 magnitude tremor Tuesday.

According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute the quake occurred at a depth of five kilometers below the seabed near Aktio.

The tremor was felt in nearby Lefkada island and the Aitoloakarnania region.

Conservative New Democracy leader Vangelis Meimarakis continued to turn up the heat on his main rival and ex-PM Alexis Tsipras on Saturday, reminding that the “only new thing Tsipras brought was the new memorandum”.

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck north of Athens at 4.09 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the tremor?s epicenter was located in the seabed, some 26 kilometers northwest of Halkida, Evia.
