Fire threatens homes in central Greek cities of Lamia and Volos

Residents in the northern sections of the central Greek city of Lamia, at Fthiotis region, were ordered to evacuate their homes late afternoon Wednesday, as a fire has crossed the Lamia-Domokos road and is heading to the area of Nea Magnissia, a few miles east of the major city.

Extra state funding for buses and coaches

An extra budget of 18.3 million euros for Greece's urban buses and intercity coaches (KTEL) was announced by Transport and Infrastructure Minister Christos Staikouras on Friday.

This sizable subsidy also concerns local coach operators in the country's remote regions, he added, speaking at the 29th KTEL annual convention in the city of Lamia, central Greece.

Police dismantle hydroponic cannabis farm in central Greece

A fully equipped laboratory for the hydroponic cultivation of cannabis was located in the basement of a house in the area of Fthiotida in central Greece, the Hellenic police (ELAS) said on Tuesday.

The basement was raided on Monday by officers of the narcotics unit, who arrested and charged a woman with the illicit cultivation of drugs, trafficking and violating gun laws.
