The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) updated its emergency weather bulletin on Sunday afternoon, noting that a low-pressure system forming in the Western Mediterranean is causing storm “Atena” in the Central Mediterranean and is moving eastward.

Fire in food storage facility still under investigation
Fire Service agents are certain that the fire that destroyed installations of a company whose packaged lunches led to widespread poisoning among pupils in the city of Lamia was due to arson.
But they are still searching for a motive, including possible avoidance of inspections.

Staph found in school meals linked to mass food poisoning
Strains of the staphylococcus bacteria have been detected in samples of school lunches that allegedly caused mass food poisoning among dozens of primary schoolchildren in the city of Lamia last week.
According to state broadcaster ERT, staph was identified in ten food samples sent to the regional National Public Health Organization laboratory in Thessaly.
Boy in coma after being beaten by mother’s partner
A four-year-old boy from Megara, western Attica, who was severely beaten by his mother's partner was intubated and in a coma at the Aglaia Kyriakou Children's Hospital.
According to the first reports, the child has multiple fractures and an epidural hematoma.

The region of Fthiotida in central Greece is on alert after Spercheios River burst its banks near the village of Frantzi, south of the city of Lamia, flooding adjacent agricultural lands.

Cooler weather will bring no respite
A spokesman for the Fire Service called Wednesday "the most difficult day of the summer," as firefighters from Greece and 11 other countries were battling a total of 90 wildfires, 61 of them having started in the 24-hour period up to 6 p.m.
