Prosecutor to probe crime at Athens park, anarchist threats
Athens prosecutor Ilias Zagoreos launched an investigation on Thursday into claims by residents of the area around the Pedion tou Areos park in downtown Athens regarding drug dealing and other criminal activities and a parallel probe into threats against an actress and mayor who have supported the residents' campaign.
Patoulis says will run for Athens mayor
Giorgos Patoulis, who is president of Greece's Union of Municipalities and Communities (KEDE), on Friday said he will run for mayor of Athens in the next local elections.
Speaking to local media, Patoulis, who is also mayor of Maroussi north of Athens, said he did not seek to be endorsed by political parties, but to attract "the support of the people."

Metropolitan Cleopas welcomes Mayor Patoulis
His Eminence Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia met with the Mayor of the northern Athens district of Maroussi, Dr. George Patoulis, who also presides of Greece’s Central Union of Municipalities, during the latter’s visit to Stockholm, welcoming him to the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. George.

Municipalities given till year 4144 to pay off debt
Consultancy professional Andreas Drymiotis made quite a revelation in an article published in Sunday's Kathimerini: According to a decision by three ministers in April 2015, the repayment of the debts three Attica municipal authorities owe to the state and the social security funds - totaling 535 million euros - was extended up to another 2,129 years (i.e. over 21 centuries from today).
Mayors hold firm against donating reserves
With the country?s cash reserves running dangerously low, the union representing Greece?s municipalities voted over the weekend against handing over their cash reserves in line with a decree issued by the government last month obliging state entities to transfer their spare money to the Bank of Greece.
