The World Tourism Organization urged the international community on Nov. 12 to pool its resources to protect travel against terrorism fears that have devastated the industry in Tunisia and Egypt.

Official statements from around the region on the results of Turkey's Nov. 1 parliamentary election, mostly those congratulating the Justice and Development Party (AKP) on its electoral victory, have continued.

A Tunisian border guard was killed on Aug. 23 in a shootout with jihadists on the border with Algeria, state television and the president of a union of border guards said.

A Tunisian policeman was shot dead on Aug. 19 by two assailants on a motorbike in the coastal resort of Sousse where a jihadist gunman killed 38 tourists in June, a senior security official said.

Serbia's Foreign Ministry has told Serbian tourists not to go on holiday in Tunisia, arguing that after the recent terror attack there, and the introduction of state of emergency on July 4, "the risk of new terrorist attacks" remains concerning.

Tunisia expects to lose at least $515 million this year, or about a quarter of its estimated annual tourism earnings, following the June 26 attack on a beach hotel that killed 39 people, mostly British holidaymakers. 

Tunisia said it would arm tourism police and deploy hundreds of reinforcements as authorities moved to boost security after a jihadist gunned down 38 people at a seaside resort in an attack claimed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

At least 27 people were killed and several injured as gunmen targeted a tourist hotel near the Tunisian resort city of Sousse on Friday.

The interior ministry informed that a "terrorist attack" was ongoing, with at least one gunman shot dead and another being pursued by security forces, the BBC reports.

A Tunisian soldier opened fire on colleagues at a military base in the capital Tunis on May 25, killing an officer and two others and wounding 15 more before being shot dead himself, Tunisian authorities said.

Tunisia has asked Italy to extradite a Moroccan suspected of involvement in the deadly attack on the Bardo museum in Tunis in March, the interior ministry said May 22.
