In a concerning revelation, the ad hoc committee investigating the activities of Gleb Myshin uncovered that over the past three to four years, a staggering 343 candidates from the Russian Federation seeking Bulgarian citizenship were discovered to have submitted falsified documents.

It has been established that an adviser to a Bulgarian Prime Minister coordinated the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a Macedonian citizen during the negotiation process of the Republic of North Macedonia with the EU.

Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov confirmed late on Thursday to BTA the information that politicians had been wiretapped by two services - State Agency Technical Operations (DATO) and DANS. According to Rashkov, materials are currently being destroyed at the State Agency for National Security (DANS).

"The interest of foreign intelligence services in the political, economic, social and defense and security spheres in Bulgaria remains constant", states the annual report on the activities of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) in 2020.

In execution of the functions and powers of the Bulgarian State Agency for National Security (DANS) in countering threats to the national security in accordance to article 4 of the DANS Act, and based on the data gathered by the agency bodies, a Turkish citizen was included in the information database of unwanted foreigners in the country, as they represented a threat to the national security.<

The deputy head of Bulgaria's domestic security and counter-intelligence agency has said as many as 181 asylum candidates were considered a "threat to national security" last year.

The State Agency for National Security (DANS) also took steps for the expulsion of 29 foreign nationals, its deputy chairman Oleg Petkov has told daily 24 Chasa.

State prosecutors found evidence about a planned attack on Peevski while investigating an attempt to kill former security agent Alexey Petrov, who was shot at with two grenade launchers in Sofia in October 2015, the ministry said on Monday.

Bulgaria has ordered the expulsion of five foreigners, who were detained during a joint operation of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) and the Interior Ministry against human smuggling on October 23.

Vladimir Pisanchev, who heads the Bulgarian counter-intelligence body DANS, has tabled his resignation.

This comes hours after on the Chief Secretary of Bulgaria's Interior Ministry, Svetlozar Lazarov, stepped down and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said he would accept the move.

Petko Sertov, the former head of Bulgaria's security service DANS, has crossed into Bulgaria from the Greek border after having disappeared mysteriously last year, Interior Minister Veselin Vuchkov has confirmed.

Sertov arrived in Bulgaria at about 01:30 EET on Monday (23:30 GMT Sunday).
