In the eastern province of Artvin, a group of concerned citizens drew attention to the danger on a risky highway, demanding a permanent solution.

Landslides have tripled in the eastern Black Sea region in recent years, especially in Artvin province, where more than 50 landslides have occurred in 2024.

Georgians traveling to the northeastern province of Artvin to buy food, especially oil, have caused long queues in front of grocery stores.

Arriving at Artvin's Kemalpaşa district through the Sarp border crossing between the two countries, Georgians thronged the grocery markets to buy the foodstuffs that are much cheaper than in their own country due to the exchange rate.

A fire broke out in a village in the northeastern province of Artvin, damaging at least 60 houses and killing 35 livestock, the local governor's office said on March 17.

In a statement, the Artvin Governor's Office said the fire erupted in the Dereiçi village of Yusufeli district.

Work to construct a mine in Artvin's Cerattepe district has reportedly been halted until the judicial process is completed, following a Feb. 24 meeting between a delegation from the district and Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu.

"Mining works in Cerattepe have been halted. The completion of the judicial process will be awaited," prime ministry sources have said.
