Rally ends; banks lead decline

The rally at the Athens Stock Exchange ended Tuesday after six session and, as on Monday, trading was thin.

Athens followed other European markets in a slight decline, with investors appearing to be hesitant.

In Athens, however, they did not hesitate to sell bank stocks, with the relevant sub-index declining 1.12%.

Picasso Estate/Petalioi: The “Greek Maldives” Left Without its “Mermaid”

Thirteen months and nine days. That’s how long Aspasia Tagliente held the management of Le Reve Estates, a company owned by the David family, which owns and manages the well-known “Picasso Estate” on Petalioi. The Greek-Italian fashion designer, who lives and works in Brussels, had taken over the management of the company, as revealed by “THEMA” in December 2023.

ATHEX: Bourse grows over 5.2% during July

Banks led the Greek stock market to a remarkable rally on Wednesday, which compounded the month's gains to see the benchmark at Athinon Avenue end July 5.26% higher than its level at end-June. The interest in the market was also highlighted by the significant increase in turnover, though rising stocks only marginally outnumbered decliners on the day.

ATHEX: Benchmark closes at a month-high

The benchmark of the Greek stock market ended the week at its highest point since June 10, doubling its weekly gains and offering optimism to traders who are seeking some midsummer opportunities in a market where trading volume is sliding by the week. Price growth was most notable during the closing auctions, which saw the main indexes at Athinon Avenue end up at the day's highs.

ATHEX: Stocks post minor gains on quiet day

The growth of most banks weighed decisively on the Greek stock market on Thursday for the final color of the benchmark, which reverted to black upon the closing after a rather narrow session, while turnover continued to decrease. Markets appear satisfied with the decline of the US inflation rate in June, which strengthens the scenario of two rate cuts by the Fed by year-end.

ATHEX: Stock index continues to head lower

Signs displayed by some stocks that there might be a rebound of the Greek bourse on Thursday proved to be short-lived, with the benchmark reverting to red and staying there up to the session's closing, before Friday's closure for the month, the MSCI index restructuring and the verdict by Fitch on the Greek credit rating.

ATHEX: Bourse falls in line with May’s motto

The Greek stock market showed on Tuesday the phenomenon described in bourse jargon as "sell in May and go away," with stocks suffering losses, turnover remaining below the 100-million-euro mark for a second day in row, and only Coca-Cola HBC, which is less affected by domestic trends, containing the losses of the main and the blue chip index.

ATHEX: Index sees small recovery after losses

After four sessions of decline for its benchmark, adding up to 4.44%, the Greek stock market rebounded on Wednesday, though not in the fashion that would have offset a significant part of recent losses. The losing streak may have been snapped, but it will take more convincing for traders to revert to the rising course of the month's first half.
