Panic came to Wall Street last night after the Dow Jones industrial stock index collapsed in nearly an hour by almost 1600 points, BNT reported. This happens after months of euphoria, highlighted regularly by President Donald Trump.

Thirty years ago Wall Street slid into the abyss, suffering the biggest one-day market fall of over 22 percent. Since then the Dow Jones has risen from 1,738 points to an all-time high of over 23,000, raising fears another historic crash is on the cards.

After posting unexpectedly high growth (3.67 percent) on Friday, the Greek benchmark headed south on Monday, as investors were not convinced by the FTSE decision to allow the local market to keep its developed label (for now), given that it had been demoted to emerging status by MSCI and S&P Dow Jones.

Bourse quiet as investors sit and wait
As global markets hold their collective breath ahead of Thursdays referendum in Scotland, investors chose to abstain from the local bourse as well on Monday, with the third-lowest daily trading volume of the year to date. Todays treasury bill auction will likely mean another day of little action for Greek stocks.
