Three airlines jostling for Air Berlin assets: CEO

Air Berlin is in talks with three competitors about buying up its assets, the insolvent airline's boss said on Aug. 17, warning that not all jobs would be saved.

"Aside from Lufthansa, we are in contact with two other interested parties from the aviation industry," Air Berlin chief executive Thomas Winkelmann told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung daily.

Airline passengers have faced queues of up to four hours at European airports, including Palma de Mallorca, Madrid, Lisbon, Milan and Paris-Orly.

EasyJet flight to Basel makes emergency landing at Thessaloniki airport

A flight to the Swiss city of Basel had to make an emergency landing shortly after taking off from the northern Greek port city of Thessaloniki, Skai reported on Tuesday.

The EasyJet flight's pilot radioed in for assistance after smoke was seen in the cockpit a few minutes after take-off from the city's Makedonia airport.

Lufthansa pilots plan new strikes over this week

Pilots at German flag carrier Lufthansa will resume their strike on Nov. 29-30, their union said, as talks over a dispute concerning wages ended without a resolution.

Pilots' union Cockpit said it was calling on members flying short-haul flights to stay away from work on Nov. 29, and those flying both short and long-haul destinations to stage a walkout on Nov. 30.

115,000 passengers hit as Lufthansa strike heads into second day

Pilots at German flagship carrier Lufthansa stayed away from work for a second straight day on Nov. 24, forcing the airline to scrap 912 flights and grounding 115,000 more passengers.

The airline had already scrapped nearly 900 flights that affected 100,000 passengers on Nov. 23 after pilots staged a walkout in a row over pay and working conditions.
