Fintur, jointly owned by Telia Company and Turkcell, has agreed to sell its 51.3 percent holding in Azertel, the sole shareholder of the Azeri telecommunications operator Azercell, to Azintelecom, a company wholly-owned by the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Turkcell is looking for acquisition opportunities to expand regionally and Iran could be a target market as sanctions against Tehran are lifted, the chief executive of Turkey's largest mobile operator said on Jan. 18.

Turkey's largest telecoms operator Turkcell on Nov. 25 said it was making a non-binding indicative offer for Nordic firm TeliaSonera's 58.55 percent stake in its Eurasian unit Fintur.
