“The December events 80 years later” with Pantelis Kapsis and historian Nikos Marantzidis – Episode 4
The last major battle of the December events – and one of the deadliest – was that of the Gerokomeio (Old Age Home), during the three-day period between January 2nd and 4th, 1944.
The government forces, supported by British paratroopers and armored vehicles, ultimately triumphed over the tough 9th regiment of the ELAS (Greek People’s Liberation Army).
Mount Olympus: 55-year-old climber found dead – His body discovered in a remote area
A 55-year-old German climber lost his life on Mount Olympus. Firefighters found his body in a remote area near the “Spilios Agapitos” refuge and transported it to an accessible location, where it was taken by an EKAV ambulance.
Wildfire breaks out in Macedonia
A wildfire broke out near a residential area in Litochoro, Macedonia.
The fire service has dispatched 18 firefighters with seven vehicles, three aircraft, and one helicopter to the scene.
A 112 alert message was sent to residents of Plaka, urging them to evacuate towards Katerini and Leptokarya.

14 new hotspots to be ready until Sunday
The number of refugees and immigrants trapped in Greece has reached 33,320, according to the Greek government, while Hellenic Red Cross talked about 50,000 people, European Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos estimated that 100,000 people will be in Greece until the end of March and Alternate Minister Yannis Mouzalas warned of a large number of refugees and immigrants.
