After having spent nearly five decades in New York, where I studied, made a career, and created a family, I decided to return to my homeland, at the invitation of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, to undertake the responsibility of Greece's relations with Greeks Living Abroad.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras issued a letter of congratulations to the New York City-based Greek daily National Herald for its centennial on Friday.

New-York-based National Herald, Greece's second-oldest Greek-language newspaper in the world, after Athens-based Estia, is celebrating its centenary this year.

The newspaper has been a lifeline for generations of Greeks living in America with its first issue on April 2, 1915, kicking off with an interview with historic Greek statesman Eleftherios Venizelos.
