Happy 100th Birthday National Herald!

New-York-based National Herald, Greece's second-oldest Greek-language newspaper in the world, after Athens-based Estia, is celebrating its centenary this year.

The newspaper has been a lifeline for generations of Greeks living in America with its first issue on April 2, 1915, kicking off with an interview with historic Greek statesman Eleftherios Venizelos.

National Herald proudly boasts of helping Greeks in America stay in touch with their homeland. Editor and publisher Anthony Diamantaris was 29 years old when he took over the newspaper and was worried at the time because the newspaper was on shaky ground.

The newspaper not only survived, it thrived. At the centennial celebration, Diamantaras remembered the newspaper's founder Petros Tatanis and the thousands of staff members that worked for the paper over the years.
