Off-plan construction: A regulation with notable changes is to be implemented in the near future

New regulations for off-plan construction are expected from the government, according to statements made by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at a tourism conference. Mitsotakis announced the intention to modify the legislative framework to align with the decisions of the Council of State (CoS), focusing on abolishing the easement requirement for off-plan plots.

Greece to tax cruise ship arrivals to protect popular islands from overtourism

Greece plans to impose a 20-euro levy on cruise ship visitors to the islands of Santorini and Mykonos during the peak summer season, in a bid to avert overtourism, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Sunday.

Greece relies heavily on tourism, the main driver of the country's economy which is still recovering from a decade-long crisis that wiped out a fourth of its output.

International fugitive arrested in Santorini

A 47-year-old foreign national, wanted on a European arrest warrant for money laundering, was arrested in the island of Santorini early Monday morning. 

Officers from the Thira Police Subdirectorate apprehended the suspect at Santorini Airport. 

According to French authorities, the man is accused of managing illegal funds through a company he established.
