Dubai Air Show opens as aviation soars following pandemic lockdowns

The biennial Dubai Air Show opened yesterday as airlines are poised to make major aircraft purchases after rebounding from the groundings of the coronavirus pandemic.

Boeing announced an order of 45 737 MAX aircraft from budget carrier SunExpress, a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa on the first day of the event.

Turkish Airlines set to order total 355 jets from Airbus

Turkish Airlines is planning to order a total of 355 planes from Airbus, according to people familiar with the talks.

Those are in addition to 10 A350-900 model jets Turkish Airlines already ordered.

This time, the flag carrier is ordering 250 A321neo aircraft, 75 A350-900, 15 A350-1000 jets as well as five A350F cargo aircraft.

Turkish Airlines (THY) carried 55.97 million passengers in the January-August period, marking a 20 percent increase from a year earlier.

The international passenger tally rose by 19 percent to 35.3 million, while domestic passengers were up nearly 22 percent to 20.7 million.

The passenger load factor improved from 78.9 percent in January-August last year to 82.9 percent.

Turkish Airlines’ orders for A350-900 reach 40 aircraft

Türkiye's national flag carrier, Turkish Airlines, has announced a new order for 10 additional A350-900 aircraft, taking its total for the type to 40, plane maker Airbus has announced.

This latest agreement is in addition to one announced in August for four A350-900s, the company said in a statement, noting that the carrier already operates a fleet of 14 A350-900s.

‘Golden Triangle’ may become new attraction for Chinese tourists

Three Turkish provinces, also known as the "Golden Triangle" of Upper Mesopotamia, may become the new favorite destination of Chinese tourists, according to hoteliers and tour operators.

The southeastern provinces of Diyarbakır, Şanlıurfa and Mardin are home to well-known historical and ancient sites, including the famous Göbeklitepe.
