Harvey Weinstein's former company has filed for bankruptcy, months after the Oscar-winning producer was accused of multiple sexual assaults.

The move by the Weinstein Company is intended to facilitate a buy-out offer from a private equity firm.

U.S. film and TV studio The Weinstein Company, whose ex-Chairman Harvey Weinstein has been accused of sexual harassment and assault, said on March 19 it filed for bankruptcy and was ending all non-disclosure agreements that may have silenced some women.

The board of directors of The Weinstein Company said late on Feb. 25 that the New York film and TV studio planned to file for bankruptcy after talks to sell it collapsed, several media outlets reported.

Two female-led investor groups are interested in taking over The Weinstein Company, which is on the verge of bankruptcy after the sexual misconduct allegations that have poured in against co-founder Harvey Weinstein, said U.S. media and a source close to the issue.
