PRISTINA - Jennifer Brush, former Director of the Office of South Central European Affairs at the US Department of State, has been appointed as Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Kosovo.

The decision to appoint Brush was announced by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday, UNMIK said in a statement.

The Rapid Trident 2014 military exercise, which will take place in Western Ukraine September 13-26, will include 10 countries, among which is Bulgaria, reported France Press. 

The exercise has been planned a long time ago and will take place against the background of the armed conflict between the Ukrainian army and the pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine. 

Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlatean received French State Secretary for European Affairs Harlem Desir on Tuesday; the two officials confirmed the roadmap of the bilateral strategic partnership and underlined the need of disseminating its current phase to the public in the two countries.

Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister Titus Corlatean called the European Union member states to keep in focus and analyse with the Community institutions the impact of regional evolutions on the Republic of Moldova.

Romanian language is one of the fundamental symbols of national unity, President Traian Basescu's message on the Romanian Language Day reads, as released on Sunday by the Presidential Administration.

The President underlined that Romanians' 'spiritual tradition proves, especially through the Romanian language, that we belong to a space of European civilization."

Prime Minister Victor Ponta has asked ministers, on Thursday, to continue their work in finalising the joint projects they develop together with authorities in Chisinau, considering the project with Moldova to be the most successful project of Romania and Europe so far.

More than 90 international leaders and politicians are expected to attend Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s presidential handover ceremony.  

At least 15 countries will be represented at the highest level at the event, however, the United States will send its Ankara Embassy’s chargé d’affairs, a rather low level participant compared to other countries.

*President Traian Basescu sent a message to his Moldovan counterpart Nicolae Timofti on the Republic of Moldova Independence Day on Wednesday, stating that Moldovans' European aspirations, prosperity and true friendship will be his soul project.
