The UN's health agency said Thursday that the scale of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has been vastly underestimated and "extraordinary measures" were needed to contain the disease.
      

The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola outbreak an international public health emergency – its highest-level alert possible, Friday.

"The possible consequences of further international spread are particularly serious in view of the virulence of the virus," the UN health agency said in a statement, following a two day meeting in their headquarters in Geneva.

West Africa’s Ebola epidemic is an “extraordinary event” and now constitutes an international health risk, the World Health Organization (WHO) said Aug. 8.

Low risk of Ebola outbreak - epidemiologist

BELGRADE -- Epidemiologist Bojana Grgić said on Friday that the risk of appearance of the Ebola virus in Serbia was low.

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry has warned citizens to show the utmost care in the case of travelling to the four African countries that were hit by the Ebola outbreak, while cautioning citizens for such care when travelling to other regional countries as well.

The first Ebola victim to be brought to the United States from Africa was safely escorted into a specialized isolation unit at one of the nation’s best hospitals, where doctors said they are confident the deadly virus won’t escape.
