One soldier killed, 10 wounded in PKK bomb attack in Turkey's southeast

One soldier was killed and 10 others were wounded on early May 4 in an outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) bomb attack in the southeastern province of Mardin.

PKK militants attacked the Üçyol Gendarmerie Station located between the Derik district of Mardin and the Viran?ehir district of the southeastern province of ?anl?urfa with a bomb-laden car at around 1 a.m., killing one soldier and wounding another 10.

A number of firefighters, paramedics and other rescue teams were deployed to the scene as the wounded soldiers, two of whom were reportedly in critical condition, were taken to hospital.

Some houses in the Koval? village near the station were also damaged due to the explosion. 

Security forces conducted a large-scale operation in the region following the attack. The Derik-Viran?ehir motorway was also closed to traffic during operations.

The Mardin Governor's Office issued a statement following the attack, confirming that one soldier was killed and 10 were wounded in the car bomb attack.
